Hyperhydrosis

Hyperhydrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive perspiration or sweating. Excessive sweating can occur in the armpit region (axillary hyperhydrosis), on the palms of the hands (palmar hyperhydrosis), the feet (plantar hyperhydrosis) and on the face (facial hyperhydrosis).

It can be a very embarrassing condition. Axillary sweating can cause embarrassing stains on the shirt and sufferers often avoid wearing certain colours or fabrics in an attempt to hide the condition. Palmar sweating can mean it is embarrassing to shake someone’s hand as the hand is often covered in sweat. Plantar hyperhydrosis worsens foot odour and contributes to athletes foot. Facial sweating can make a person feel constantly anxious about their appearance. The anxiety caused by excessive sweating often makes the sweating worse, hence sufferers feel trapped in a vicious cycle.

Botox® injections can be used to disable the overactive sweat glands and thus avoids complicated surgery.
